Relax and release. Coconut trees are associated with Relaxation. There are many varieties of coconut trees. The smallest is the Dwarf Palm. Coconut palm trees have tall graceful trunks topped with feathery leaves up to 17 feet long.
Coconut palms grow in tropical environments such as Jamaica, Africa, Asia, Hawaii and Latin America. The coconut fruit has a hard exterior, lined inside with a white meat. The center of the coconut is hollow and filled with coconut milk. Many islanders like to crack the coconuts open and drink the milk directly from the coconut as a treat. One coconut palm can produce up to 50 coconuts.
Coconuts have supplied many Pacific islanders with food and shelter. Trunks are used to stbalize buildings and the white meat is used as food. Rugs, mats, baskets and hats are made out of the coconut palm leaves.
Coconut oil is pressed from the dried white meat, which is called Copra. Nothing is wasted with the coconut. The pressed Copra is then used as cattle feed.
